His favourite hike leads from Pederü into the heart of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, one of South Tyrol’s most impressive high-mountain landscapes. Amidst rugged rock formations, vast Alpine meadows, and tranquil mountain lakes, you’ll experience the raw power of the Dolomites up close. A special highlight along the way is insight into Alpine culinary culture, including traditional methods of beer production in the Alpine region, which have shaped the area since time immemorial.

A varied yet peaceful hike that winds through idyllic landscapes, offering repeated stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The tour is ideal for anyone wishing to enjoy nature in a relaxed atmosphere and take a moment to pause and reflect along the way.

The Kasseler Mountain Hut in the Rein Valley is an impressive destination for hikers and mountain lovers. Situated at an altitude of around 2,200 metres, it offers a spectacular view of the mighty three-thousand-metre peaks of the Riesenferner Group and the unspoilt natural paradise of the Rein Valley.

The ascent leads through a striking Alpine landscape of rushing streams, mountain meadows, and rocky passages. At the top, a rustic mountain hut with a warm, welcoming atmosphere awaits that is ideal for a well-earned rest, regional specialities, and a magnificent panorama.

Katharina shares a passion for the Valle d’Altafossa (Altfasstal) with her grandmother Luisa. The Altfasstal delights with its unspoilt beauty and its many sights. The hike can be wonderfully combined with culinary stops: gluten-free pasta specialities at the Großberghütte mountain hut, a fine cheese tasting at the Weißer Mountain Hut, and, on the way back, a cosy finale at the traditional Törggelen in Spinges (Spinga) at the Erschbamer restaurant (the entire menu can be made gluten-free). A perfect combination of nature, gluten-free indulgence, and the South Tyrolean way of life.

This is a special highlight, at least in Fabian’s eyes. As a real sports fanatic, he’d love to tackle the tour straight from the campsite. However, those who prefer to take it a bit easier can use the Alp Bus, which runs twice daily from St. Lorenzen (San Lorenzo di Sebato) to the Kreuzner car park in Ellen (Elle).

From there, the trail first leads across the beautiful Rodenecker (Rodengo) Mountain Pasture with its numerous huts. It is one of the largest high-altitude pastures in Europe and a real experience in its own right. It then continues up to the Astjoch (Cima Lasta), where an impressive panorama of the Dolomites, the Puster Valley, and the surrounding mountains awaits.

With a bit of luck, you might even spot our campsite from up there. The view stretches far into the valley, and if you look closely, you might even be able to wave to us.

One of her favourite places was the pilgrimage site of Maria Saalen (Sares), a place full of tranquillity and a special atmosphere.

From the campsite, a leisurely hike through woods and across meadows leads up to Maria Saalen (Sares). After around five kilometres, you reach the small, idyllically situated church with its famous Black Madonna. Up here, time seems to pass a little more slowly — a place to pause, enjoy the moment, and recharge your batteries.

It was precisely the combination of the gentle walk through nature and the special atmosphere of this pilgrimage site that made Maria Saalen (Sares) a destination Grandma Luisa always loved to visit..

Grandpa Peppi, on the other hand, wasn’t much of a hiker. He much rather preferred to get into his white Renault and set off for his favourite spots in the South Tyrolean mountains.

He particularly enjoyed cycling up to the Würzjoch (Passo delle Erbe). Up there, he could spend hours taking in the breathtaking views of the Dolomites and soaking in the unique tranquillity of the mountain landscape.

His second favourite destination was the beautiful Ahrntal (Valle Aurina). The journey took him all the way to Kasern (Casere), the last village in the valley. Surrounded by mighty peaks and lush Alpine meadows, he found exactly what he cherished so much there: nature, wide open spaces, and the beauty of South Tyrol.

Even the Romans loved St. Lorenzen (San Lorenzo di Sebato). The interactive Roman museum in the heart of the village has three floors and brings to life the people who lived, built, and dreamed here centuries ago. 

Reinhold Messner’s highest museum at 2,275 m on Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) was designed by Zaha Hadid and is dedicated to traditional mountaineering. It is a must see. You can also visit the LUMEN, the unique museum of mountain photography. Here fascinating images, interactive exhibitions, and spectacular panoramic views tell the story of the mountains through the photographic lens. An inspiring place for nature lovers, mountain enthusiasts, and anyone wishing to discover the Alps with fresh eyes.

The Astjoch delights with its expansive Alpine meadows, traditional huts, and impressive panoramic views. The Alp Bus takes you comfortably from St. Lorenzen (San Lorenzo di Sebato) to Ellen (Elle), which is the perfect start of your hike through unspoilt nature.

Just 3 km from the foot of Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) in St. Vigil in Enneberg (San Vigilio di Marebbe), Europe’s longest zipline awaits you: up to 80 km/h from the summit down into the valley. For anyone who loves a thrill.
